Supportive Statistics & Information for Funding Applications
The quiet, older offender group is continuing to grow. Although the numbers aren’t huge yet, their level of crisis is.
There is little research available for these offenders, with many organisations focusing on the younger majority of offenders and defined groups to develop services. Specific funding streams for this group isn’t easy to find. In light of these challenges, we have collated some “Supportive Statistics and Information for Funding Applications” that will hopefully help organisations with their funding applications and you can download this from the Resource/Document Library (Reports/Research) in this section of the website, along with further research and information.
The recent Justice Select Committee inquiry into the treatment of older prisoners highlights key areas of concern and makes a number of recommendations relating to the need to improve health, social care and resettlement services for this group. Help with Funding Applications
ACEVO, the association of Chief Executives of Voluntary Organisations, has produced a useful Factsheet covering issues you need to consider in order to write a successful tender. A link is available here.
The Local Grants Forum is a partnership of national organisations campaigning to protect grants for local voluntary organisations and community groups. They have produced a leaflet (5 Ways to Protect Grant Funding, available here) to help you promote and protect this vital source of funds and help you influence your local funders and challenge unfair decisions.

If you are interested in expanding your services to include working with older offenders and ex-offenders, but need some funding to enable you to do so, the following funders may be able to help:
- The Noel Buxton Trust – Charitable Trust awarding grants to voluntary and Community Sector organisations working with offenders.
- Barchester’s Charitable Foundation – charity helping the lives of older people and other adults with a physical or mental disability
- The Women’s Resource Centre – is the largest national umbrella organisation for women’s charities.
- The Henry Smith Charity – Funds projects for older people and offenders.
- The Allen Lane Foundation is a grant-making Trust supporting older people, offenders and ex-offenders.
- GRANTnet – a national free-to-use service helping small businesses, charitable and community groups find suitable funding.
- Clinks – Whilst not a funder itself, Clinks offers its members free access to the GRANTnet funding database, where you can search for potential funders.
- Turn2us – a charitable service helping both individuals and organisations access money available to them.
