The Care Act 2014 sets out, amongst other things, the responsibilities from April 2015 of Local Authorities with regards to the assessment of, and provision of social care and support to those aged 18 and over in prisons and approved premises such as bail hostels.
The provision of care and support for those in custodial settings will be based on the principle of equivalence to provision in the community, subject to some exceptions to reflect the particular nature and circumstances of custodial settings.
To support better awareness and understanding for people in a custodial setting, a suite of information in Easy Read Leaflet format has been produced which will explain to individuals their rights under the Care Act and covers all elements of the care and support journey whilst in prison or an approved premises setting, from general awareness raising through assessment, eligibility, care planning, complaints, safeguarding, charging and support on release.
Local Authorities in England can download any or all leaflets in either pdf version or publisher version simply by clicking the required version.
By ticking the Publisher version, individual Local Authorities can download, add their contact details and send directly to their printing company for production en masse.
A poster is also available for use by Prisons or Approved Premises to direct prisoners or residents to where the information leaflets can be accessed.
