The Health Service Journal (HSJ) Patient Safety Awards are independently judged by experts from across the healthcare sector and demonstrate extraordinary progress being made by teams to deliver and improve safe care.
Recoop is delighted to announce that Care UK/HMP Dartmoor have been awarded the End of Life Award. Recoop’s Buddy Support Workers have been working in Dartmoor for over five years supporting older prisoners with health and social care needs and the day-to-day challenges they face within an often very difficult environment. Increasingly end-of-life care is also required.
Paul Grainge, Recoop’s Operations Manager, said:
“It is really pleasing that Care UK and HMP Dartmoor have been recognised in this way. The whole prison approach to End of Life Care includes the support provided by the Recoop Buddy team and highlights the value of the dignified and respectful support they give prisoners as they move towards their end of life”.
Sarah Bromley, medical director for Health in Justice, said:
“I am really delighted to see that they have recognised the great work that our teams do and have given us the opportunity to demonstrate Care UK’s commitment to patient safety and continuous quality improvement in the toughest of environments.
Our teams in prisons are dedicated, committed to their patients and demonstrate resilience in their daily roles, having to deal with some very challenging and, at times, traumatic incidents. Their care is regularly scrutinised by multiple external agencies and these award nominations demonstrate their willingness to be open, to learn and to continuously improve the care they provide.”
