What are the key processes in Website design & development you should consider?

This conversation is to learn more about the challenges you’re facing, identify the type of help you need and what kind of solution would work best for you.
We’ll also talk discuss some of the other key items, for example:
- What information you currently have or may need to acquire for your content
- What your long-term aims are for the website and how future updates may impact the decisions now to ensure necessary costs and development can be avoided
- Who is going to update the content long-term and what training they may require
- Any special functionality you may need that is specific to your business needs
Scope, Design and Development
Using the information provided, AllDesignOnline produce a scope of work which defines the following:
- Outline of requirements
- Proposed solution
- Content source information availability and required elements
- Project execution timeline
- Project costs and terms
Once the scope of work and costs are agreed, gathering of source information begins along with the initial design concept. The design concept is presented to you for review and any design revisions that are requested are made and the design is submitted back to you again for review.
Upon signoff of the design, the development of the site begins on our server which is not indexed by search engines. This allows us to share a web address with you to review progress without it appearing in the public domain. Content and pages are added to the site and upon completion, final review from you is requested on both the visual aspects and the user journey through your new site, with requested adjustments incorporated into the development site.
Website Launch and Training
Now the exciting part – your new website goes live! Once the site is live we will monitor it’s performance to ensure that everything is functioning correctly in the initial days after launch and correct any issues if they arise.
If required as part of the scope of work, we will train your team (typically via video call) on two key aspects of your new website:
- How to manage and update your new website using the content editor
- How to check traffic and visitor’s to your website
SEO
Website SEO and optimisation – what you need to know.
Running a website should be viewed much like running a car. If you do not maintain it or invest time and money into it, it eventually becomes tired, inefficient and unreliable.
A new website created by AllDesignOnline is optimised from the beginning and designed to perform well in Search Engines such as Google and Bing. As the website becomes established it is important that you invest the time into measuring the visitors (we can show you how to do this or provide the results to you) and understanding how they interact with your website.
This enables you to see:
- What is working or not working well
- Areas that people exit from your website
- Are people converting (e.g. have they reached a certain page you’d like them to reach and performed a task such as filling in a form?)
- Sections of the site that need improvement or content changes
As you add new content it is important that this is structured correctly and optimised so that it performs well.
AllDesignOnline perform a ‘fundamental’ Search Engine Optimisation (SEO). This covers all of the accepted standards for general SEO, i.e. ensuring correct page structures and heading weights, meta tags, external links have the correct Urchin Tracking Module (UTM) etc.
AllDesignOnline are not however ‘SEO Experts’. Just as a builder understands construction, it does not qualify them as an architect or civil engineer.
Many website designers and developers will present themselves as ‘SEO experts’ who can get you to the top of Google! Some of them can, but the vast majority are not telling you the truth – they are lying to you and probably themselves. They are not experts in SEO, the kind of expert level that can get a particular page in front of a specific audience and get it converting – that is a separate full-time skill in itself.
This is why for clients who require the next level of SEO, for those targeting a specific result that goes beyond ‘fundamental’, we refer them to a trusted company we work with, who’s sole business function is providing expert SEO.
There is no commission for AllDesignOnline doing this, we simply know that in an industry that is plagued by false promises and pretenders, good, honest people are hard to find.
Maintenance
You’ve had your new website built by AllDesignOnline, what next? Who looks after it and carries out the ongoing maintenance?
The majority of websites built by AllDesignOnline are created using WordPress which is the number one Worldwide website platform for providing a stable and well supported content management system (CMS). We find that it is versatile enough for most clients needs, with vast online support and resources available, it means that should a client wish to fully run and manage their website, or should the wish to move on to another design company in the future, the work we have created can be continued and supported – a client is not tied to AllDesignOnline.
We do also create websites using ASP .Net, but that is usually for very niche websites – please contact us for more information.
As with most technologies, it is important to keep things up-to-date to ensure that any potential vulnerabilities that may have been discovered have been closed off and that you’re getting the most out of the new features as they become available in WordPress.
AllDesignOnline offer a straightforward service. Once a month we will back-up your website and send a copy to your desired location (i.e. SharePoint, OneDrive, DropBox etc), we will update the core version of WordPress and plug-ins where applicable, then check to ensure the updates have no adverse effects on your website.
What if there is a problem?
If as a result of an update there is an issue, which is extremely rare, we will attempt to resolve the issue if takes less than an hour. If it is more in depth, we will roll the website back to before the update and discuss with you the issue and advise the cost to rectify.

You mention WordPress - do you build other types of websites?
Yes, we absolutely do. WordPress features a lot in our content because the majority of our clients either request WordPress or we recommend WordPress as it’s the best fit for their project. It generally provides the most cost effective, yet flexible solution, enabling bespoke design and content to be integrated into a robust, globally supported Content Management System (CMS).
There are some projects where WordPress is not suitable. For example where a client is running a Windows environment where the website needs to integrate into an existing system, i.e. the website needs to work with a supply chain system in the warehouse. AllDesignOnline would assess your requirements and advise accordingly. If you had a very specific requirement and we did not feel we could support that to the level you need, we would be honest and tell you, then assist you with finding the right provider who could help.
I already have a website, I just need some changes - do you do Ad-Hoc work?
We absolutely do. Some of our longstanding clients have come to us with an existing website which for different reasons, i.e. the relationship has broken down or the previous web development company are now too busy, they can no longer get updated and would just like some changes to be made rather than a website rebuild.
For this type of work we charge an hourly rate. We will asses the changes and advise of the approximate total cost (or a fixed total cost if appropriate). Read more about ad-hoc website work.
